The Mineral Spa Building
By locating the Retreat Area with a northern orientation, the building was designed to gain full solar benefits. A minimum number of windows were placed on the west side, and a special rendered-foam wall cladding was installed to reduce the thermal load.

CBus controls are used on all lights. The lighting throughout the spa is controlled from reception. All lighting inside the building is low energy, and a flick of one switch turns the whole building off. Change room, toilet and storeroom lighting and fans are controlled by movement sensors with timers. After inactivity in a room for a predetermined period, they switch off. Low-level inverter split air-conditioning systems are installed throughout.

All the exposed timber floors are recycled messmate timber from the Australian Recycled Timber Company. Recycled iron bark posts are used throughout the spa, and the turpentine wharf timbers used on the entry came from a finger wharf in Sydney. The decking leading down to the spa is also recycled turpentine.

Pools and Spas
Private spas require not only the water used in the treatment but also similar additional amounts of water to clean and back wash the spa bath after each client. The public spas and plunge pools in our Retreat Area do not need a change of water after use. We have reviewed and upgraded our spa pool processes eliminating water disposal representing a saving of 30,000 litres.

We also ask all clients to limit their shower time to a maximum of 3 minutes per shower, further reducing water wastage.

Cleaning Products
Wherever possible, we use environmentally-friendly cleaning products supplied by Daylesford Aromatherapy. All product containers are recycled.

The Gardens
The gardens around the Mineral Spa are planted with native shrubs selected for their drought tolerance and are heavily mulched. The ponds and waterfall at the front door of the Mineral Spa have created their own ecosystem complete with a family of frogs.

Treatment Products
Li'Tya products have an innovative and sustainable environmental philosophy. Li'Tya promotes itself as respectfully responsible. It is aligned with the Aboriginal philosophy of treading lightly upon the earth. In using the product we are able to integrate this philosophy in the day to-day operation of the spa.
